Announce your engagement! Congratulations on saying, “Yes!” Now if only shouting from the rooftops was a legitimate option for sharing the good news. Instead, follow these etiquette-approved ways for telling family and friends you and your sweetie are soon to become Mr. and Mrs.
STOP AND BREATHE
You're getting married. It's really happening. Weather you want a big or small wedding, rustic or glam, purple or blush the time has come to start planning. Everyone is asking you WHEN? WHERE? HOW BIG? It's okay to stop and breathe. Even if you are organized, things can be overwhelming.
ESTABLISH A BUDGET
Sit down as a couple and decide on the style, formality, and size of your wedding. How big or small is your budget? Who will pay for what? If your parent(s) have offered to help, set up a time to determine expense responsibilities for each category.
SELECT OPTIONS FOR A WEDDING DATE
We recommend selecting 2-3 ideal wedding dates. Want a October wedding, because you love fall? Near down your options... then reach out to your top venue choices.
Is the ceremony location available?
Is the reception venue available?
PREPARE A TENTATIVE GUEST LIST
Let your mom and mother-to-be write down everyone they would like to invite! It's okay, if the list is big. REALLY! IT IS OKAY. This "tentative list" is not the final list.
How many people do you want to have at your wedding?
50, 100, 300+
How big is your venue & church?
A good rule to remember 1/3 of your guest will not be able to attend. That number might seam big, but it's pretty accurate. If your venue holds 250, you can invite 335 guests.
How big is your budget per person?
Who is paying? If your parents are paying for the meals, let them invite a handful of friends. If you are paying, nicely tell them that your budget is limited. Most parents and friends will understand.
